Canada's Semiconductor Council (CSC) proudly announces the addition of IBM Canada Limited, a powerhouse in technology and innovation, to its quickly growing membership. IBM Canada's Bromont facility in Quebec is one of North America’s largest chip assembly and testing facilities, having operated in the region for 52 years. It transforms advanced semiconductor components into state-of-the-art microelectronic solutions, playing a key role in semiconductor R&D leadership alongside International Business Machines Corporation’s facilities at the Albany NanoTech Complex and throughout New York’s Hudson Valley.
IBM Canada's plant in Bromont is of strategic importance amidst the North American reshoring of semiconductor capabilities, aligning with efforts to establish an integrated supply chain across borders.
“Around the world, the semiconductor market is at a pivotal moment, and IBM is proud to support the growth of the IBM facility in Bromont ecosystem and Canada’s crucial role in securing this sector’s capabilities at an important time,” said Stephane Tremblay, Executive Director of IBM Canada’s Bromont site. “We are keen to contribute to the CSC’s mission to promote the intangibles of a technology that plays a foundational role in our economy and national security in key areas like computing, communications, AI and Quantum.”
Last month, IBM Canada Limited, the Government of Canada, and the Government of Quebec
announced agreements
that will strengthen Canada’s semiconductor industry, and further develop the assembly, testing and packaging (ATP) capabilities for semiconductor modules to be used across a wide range of applications including telecommunications, high performance computing, automotive, aerospace & defence, computer networks, and generative AI, at IBM Canada’s plant in Bromont.
“IBM joining CSC is a testament to the importance of our growing organization as the voice of the semiconductor sector in Canada,” said Paul Slaby, Managing Director of Canada’s Semiconductor Council. “We are looking forward to closer collaboration among companies advancing semiconductor packaging, assembly, and test technologies.”
IBM Canada Limited's membership in CSC reinforces the council's position as a hub for industry leaders and stakeholders to come together to address common challenges, drive technological advancements, and promote Canada's competitiveness in the global semiconductor market.
